R&R: Ignoring the Sniper, trying to be "bigger than" or aloof about this behavior, is perhaps the most common reaction to sniping in public.
(An eerie silence hangs in the room. People shift uncomfortably. Someone clears his throat and it seems quite loud against the silence. Rickles is grinning at you.)

RICKLES: (To the person next to him) Some people (now nodding toward you) don't have much to say, the only trouble is, (now to anyone who will listen) you have to wait so long to find out! (an unsubtle grin)
